A Snow Day

Today, was a slow day.  Normally, I would be busy, but for the last two days, we have been stuck in the house.  We live in Alabama and when the weather man says that there is going to be snow, people go crazy.  It is amazing how the shelfs in the grocery stores become empty.  The schools close and  they stay in.

The Governor even asked people to please stay in and not get out, unless it was absolutely necessary.  Now if you have lived in snow, you wonder why all the fuss.  I was raised in West Texas, where it really snows.  But for the people here, they are not familiar with it.

So today, I decided that I needed to be productive.  I pulled out my scraps and make a mug rug out of the scraps.  I just got back in to quilting in November of last year.  I ended up making eight quilts by Christmas.  I had four more that I needed to finish, but time got away from me.  Did I have fun?  Oh, yes.  I had forgotten how much I loved to sew.  With the girls all grown up, I had put my machine up.

My Tommy bought me my first Bernina 38 years ago and I had taken it to a gentleman that his wife is in the Quilter's Guild.  Well, it still was not working well.  So, one day, I decided that I would just go to the Bernina store and check out the machines.  Well, I did better than that.  I walked out with the Bernina 710 and have fallen in love with it.  My first one was a 830.  We had gone to the Fair in Lubbock, Texas(where I was raised) and I fell in love with the machine.  I remember how I loved sewing and creating new crafts and clothes.

So now with my 710, I am able to not only sew clothes and crafts, but wonderful quilts.  Now, I have not tried any complicated  ones, but oh, I am having fun.

I am only starting, but with my new friends in the Quilter's Guild and all the wonderful YouTubes, I am thinking that I may need to get a maid.  How will I ever find the time to clean, when my mind is full of the delicious quilts swimming around in my head?

This is the one that I did for my Alexis.  It has a panel of horses with three borders.  Later, I did quilting, diagonally  and put a binding around it.  She was very happy with it and Tyler, her boyfriend is waiting for his.  She said that she was tired of sharing hers.
